LOS ANGELES — The Minnesota Timberwolves silenced the home crowd at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday night, dismantling the Los Angeles Lakers 117–95 in Game 1 of their first-round series in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
The Lakers came out flat, and the Timberwolves pounced after a slow first quarter. Jaden McDaniels was electric, finishing with 25 points and nine rebounds, while Anthony Edwards nearly had a triple-double with 22 points, eight boards, and nine assists. Sixth Man of the Year candidate Naz Reid added 23 points off the bench, fueling a 43–13 advantage in bench scoring.
Minnesota shot a blistering 51.2% from the field and 50% from three (21-for-42), breaking the Lakers' defense wide open throughout the night.
Luka Dončić, in his playoff debut with the Lakers, poured in 37 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but it wasn’t enough. LeBron James contributed 19 points, but the Lakers struggled to find rhythm on both ends. The Timberwolves also dominated the fast break, outscoring Los Angeles 25–6.
Game 2 tips off Tuesday night in Los Angeles, where the Lakers will look to regroup and avoid falling into a 0–2 hole in the best-of-seven series.
