King Power Stadium, Leicester – On a chilly evening under the floodlights, Liverpool edged past Leicester City in a tense Premier League encounter, thanks to a sensational late goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds, who are still in the thick of the title race, struggled to break down a stubborn Leicester side who defended deep and looked to hit on the counter. Jurgen Klopp’s men had their chances – with Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota coming close – but it was Leicester keeper Mads Hermansen who kept them at bay with a string of fine saves.
As the match crept into the final ten minutes, it looked destined to end goalless. But in the 87th minute, Liverpool were awarded a free-kick just outside the box after a foul on Cody Gakpo. Up stepped Alexander-Arnold.
With the kind of precision and calm we’ve come to expect from the Liverpool vice-captain, Trent curled a stunning free-kick over the wall and into the top corner. Hermansen was rooted to the spot. The away end erupted.
“I just focused on technique and hit it sweetly. Thankfully it went in,” said Trent after the game, smiling.
