🌧️ Deluge Hits Wales and Southwest England: Met Office Issues Warnings Amid Torrential Rain

Wales and the southwest of England are waking to a soaking start as heavy rain and strong winds sweep in from the Atlantic—bringing with them travel disruption and flood risks.

The Met Office has placed yellow weather warnings across the region, valid through the day, as a slow-moving frontal system delivers wave after wave of rain. Some areas have already recorded more than 30mm of rainfall since midnight, with the heaviest deluge falling across Pembrokeshire, Swansea, Exeter, and parts of Cornwall.

⚠️ Weather Warnings in Effect

The yellow warning, in place until 4 PM, covers:

  • Southwest Wales

  • Cornwall & Devon

  • Somerset & parts of Gloucestershire

Key concerns include:

  • Localised surface flooding on roads and in low-lying areas

  • Reduced visibility and dangerous driving conditions

  • Delays on trains and buses in affected regions

  • Risk of waterlogged farmland and overwhelmed drainage systems

Drivers using the M4, A30, and rural routes are advised to exercise caution, reduce speeds, and allow extra time for travel.

🌦️ Rest of the UK: Mixed Bag

While the west gets drenched, other parts of the country are faring better:

  • Central & Eastern England: Dry spells and mild temperatures, highs of 13–14°C

  • Northern Ireland & Scotland: Blustery with scattered showers, especially in western coasts

  • London & Southeast: Cloudy but largely dry, with brighter skies possible by late afternoon

🔭 Looking Ahead

As the rain band slowly shifts eastwards, the worst of the weather is expected to clear by evening. Conditions will improve overnight with a few lingering showers.

Wednesday promises brighter skies across most of the UK, although temperatures will remain cool for mid-April, ranging from 9–12°C.

🛰️ Stay Weather-Aware

To keep safe and dry:

  • Check the latest updates from the Met Office

  • Follow local travel alerts and public transport updates

  • Avoid walking or driving through flooded roads

A wet and wild morning for many—but drier days are just around the corner. ☀️
